There's a New Rooftop in Town

If you are a local living in Newport Beach or in the vicinity of the peninsula I’m sure you have either already been to or heard about the infamous rooftop bar and lounge located at the newest hot spot hotel in Orange County. If you aren’t familiar with all the buzz, let me introduce you to the Lido House Hotel.

Lido House Hotel is a part of the Marriott Autograph Collection which specializes in Boutique hotels that aim to bring a deep sense of connection to its local roots. The Lido House Hotel perfectly blends a modern feel with a classic Cape Cod getaway. With every detail thought out from the valet uniforms including top-siders and salmon colored pants to the unique wallpaper and design of each floor, this hotel does not skip a beat with its craftsmanship. Regardless if you live a block away from this hotel or are a out-of-towner once you step onto the premises you will get lost in all the vacation feels.

Lets move right along into my favorite feature. Topside Bar, the rooftop bar and lounge. This long awaited feature has locals drooling over the concept that Newport FINALLY has a rooftop bar on its radar. Why is this such a craze ? Newport restaurant and bar goers have been requesting a location that services a rooftop ambiance for decades. With city ordinances in place and grandfathered laws it is almost impossible to get the permits to approve a rooftop bar. Again.. I say almost because Lido House came in and not only gave us our long lost wish of such a bar but truly mastered the setting and overall vibe of the rooftop bar. As their website describes its ambiance as “a true beach soiree vibe”. Fun fact, the hotel is on the grounds of where Newport Beach’s City Hall used to reside making it even more appropriate to offer the only spot in town with the rooftop experience. Now, since the opening of Pacific City in between Newport Beach and Huntington, we got a sense of what a modern hip rooftop lounge feels like with places like the Bungalow and Tanners. These spots are also a hot commodity, but now that Topside is in play.. its even easier to enjoy a craft cocktail on Newport Beach’s only rooftop bar without leaving the peninsula to enjoy the panoramic views of the harbor and the ocean on both sides.

Now that Topside has been open long enough for people to experience it and the long waiting crowds to die down, the best times to hit the bar in my opinion is Sunday afternoons if you dare to dabble with the concept of “Sunday Funday”. I find Sundays to always be a little more mellow and the overall vibe to feel more relaxed as many hotel guests are departing and the locals are there to soak up the Sunday sun. Saturdays are always fun as well but you may have less chance of getting the right spot for your group size. After taking the elevator up to floor “Topside” you will be greeted by kind faces at the entrance checking for wristbands on weekends to control crowd and monitor ID checks. After that, you will be embraced by boho chic styled outdoor furniture with hints of yellow and blue to create the perfect beach-side vibe. Known for their wide variety of Champagne tastings, the menu also offers craft cocktails including their Topside Margarita featuring a Popsicle and chili lime rim that is almost too aesthetically pleasing to drink.. cue in portrait mode photo-shoot. Their food selections fall right in line with the craftiness of their drinks. From house roasted nuts to Designer Oysters and a full caviar service to pair with your champagne.. your rooftop experience will not disappoint.

With just over six months under their belt, Lido House has established a strong presence in the community and has done an exceptional job creating a place for everyone within the walls of their charming hotel. The design and architecture elevates the whole neighborhood and offers an inviting place to eat, play, and stay in Newport Beach. If you are in the area… it is a must see! Also, don’t forget to take a look at their local events as they are always hosting different activities throughout the year.
